In development, coming soon...
Serial IO MKII
Next generation of the Serial IO, with Ethernet, SD card & digital IO
The Serial IO is one of our more popular products with many units in 24/7 operation and more being installed.
However, sometimes firmware customisation requirements come up that stretch the capability of the hardware design to its limit.
Therefore it was decided to develop the next generation of the product.
Not only encompassing all that has been learnt from 10+ years of manufacturing & supplying the Serial IO, but also providing for much greater capability and matching potential future requirements.
The design features include:
- Fast, RISC based micro-processor, 256k Flash, 8k SRAM, 4k EEPROM
- Additional 32k SRAM
- Three individually electrically isolated RS232 serial ports capable of synchronous and asynchronous operation
- 10/100 Mbs Ethernet, electrically isolated
- V.22 & V.23 modem with 4 wire, 600 ohm VF interface
- Digital IO, by default 32 inputs & 32 outputs, but expandable in blocks of 16. Compatible with EDMI RailMaster wiring.
- SD card slot
- Real time clock with SuperCap backup
- Wide supply voltage range, 7.5 - 76 Vdc
- Low power operation

This design allows for many exciting new possibilities. Some that have been thought of so far include:
- Serial RS232 protocol conversion (S2, Genisys, UCE, Modbus, DNP3, etc), as per the Serial IO, but with 3 ports available
- Allowing legacy VF (V.22/V.23 modem) and serial RS232 devices & protocols to be available via Ethernet, optionally using newer protocols
- Logging of serial comms to SD card in the field for diagnostics, with possible remote retrieval
- Remote update of configuration, and even firmware, via Ethernet
- User configurable, multi-protocol conversion similar to the Protocol Hub, but in the field in a 19" 1U rack space
